South Africa: Late Head of Detectives's Wife Assassinated

7 November 2023

The widow of the late head of detectives, Philani Ndlovu, has been assassinated.

Nonhlanhla Mildred Ndlovu was shot and killed execution-style on Sunday.

A source close to the case told Scrolla.Africa that it is suspected that the deceased was killed as she drove out of the Chris Hani Mall in Ekurhuleni.

She was found in a Toyota Etios on the side of Barman Road with several gunshot wounds to her head, according to sources. The victim was declared dead by the paramedics who were called to the scene. Authorities on the scene found five empty cartridges.

A source further told Scrolla.Africa the victim was later identified as Mrs Nonhlanhla Mildred Ndlovu, the widow of the late General Philani Ndlovu, who died of natural causes in May 2022.

General Ndlovu was the head of detectives at the time Orlando Pirates captain Senzo Meyiwa was killed. Reports suggest that he was approached by someone who gave him information relating to what happened on the day Meyiwa was shot dead at his celebrity girlfriend Kelly Khumalo's house in Vosloorus, Ekurhuleni.

Ndlovu was supposed to testify at the ongoing Meyiwa trial before he grew ill and died.

It is not known at this stage what the motive could be for killing the general's widow. Her body was taken to the Germiston government mortuary.

The source said the car in which the deceased was found, and her wedding ring, were given to her family.

Five men are standing trial in the Pretoria Magistrate's Court for Meyiwa's murder.
