What: Capacity Building Workshop on the Continental Nutrition Accountability Scorecard (CNAS) for ECCAS and COMESA Regions

Who: The African Union Commission (AUC) and African Leaders for Nutrition (ALN)

When: 20 - 22 November 2023

Where: Hilton Hotel, Yaounde, Cameroon

The African Union Commission (AUC), and the African Development Bank's African Leaders for Nutrition (ALN) will host a 2-day capacity-building workshop for the Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS) and Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) Regions on the Digital Platform of the Continental Nutrition Accountability Scorecard. The workshop will be held from 20-22 November 2023, in Yaounde, Cameroon.

The workshop will be a knowledge sharing event on the digital version of the Continental Nutrition Accountability Scorecard. It will also offer participants the opportunity to share their experiences on the use of nutrition data and scorecards in promoting accountability among African countries, and to promote standardization of data analysis approaches in developing nutrition reports.

The Continental Nutrition Accountability scorecard tracks progress by countries toward the achievement of nutrition targets set under the Malabo Declaration, World Health Assembly (WHA), and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Developed and launched in 2019 by African Leaders for Nutrition (ALN), in conjunction with the African Union Commission, African Union Member States are expected to use data from the Continental Nutrition Accountability Scorecard to assess progress made toward meeting national, continental, and global targets on nutrition and hold leaders accountable for the same. Regional Economic Communities can use the CNAS to inform the development of the annual nutrition report.

The workshop will bring together two Regional Economic Communities, the Economic Community of Central African States and the Common Market for Eastern Africa. Participants will include representatives of the Bureau of Statistics, health, and other sectors relevant to nutrition from the respective regions.
