Kenya: I Am Not Planning My Re-Election but How We Will Transform the Nation - President Ruto

19 November 2023

Nairobi — President William Ruto now says his transformative policies which have been deemed unpopular are not aimed at catapulting his presidential ambition in 2027 polls but on sustainable transformation of the nation.

President Ruto stated that the issues bedeviling the nation including high cost of living, depreciating shilling, and debt burden have hindered the nation's growth but he believes his government will turn around the crisis.

"The nation has been stuck for so long because Kenyans are just thinking about re-election. Everyone is thinking about how they will be re-elected. I am not planning my re-election but how we will transform the nation," he said.

He warned elected and appointed leaders in his administration against focusing on the 2027 general election a year after they took the helm of power urging them to concert their efforts on delivering the Kenya Kwanza Alliance manifesto.

"Issues surrounding re-elections belongs to God and the people of Kenya. My work is not thinking of how I will be re-elected but how Kenyan will have employment and healthcare. That's the focus," Ruto stated.

Given his President William Ruto's recent tours of the country, questions abound about whether the Head of State has his eyes fixed on the 2027 General Elections.

The President has in recent times embarked on several development tours across the country during which he launches projects while at the same time explaining his development agenda for the country.

In his development tours across the country, the president and his Deputy Rigathi Gachagua weighed into the 2027 polls with statements that affirmed he will beat his opponents.

On the campaign trail, Ruto had told voters that he was up to the task of turning around the economy. Among his top priorities was creating jobs and bringing down the cost of living.

The cost of living is higher after a steep increase in the petrol price and the local currency's loss of value.

President Ruto has said ongoing efforts by his administration to rebuild the country's economy are progressing well despite the increase of taxes and levies that have ostensibly made him unpopular.
