"Expo 2030 Roma for humanity" is the core message of the campaign in support of Rome's candidacy to host the Universal Exposition in 2030. This powerful message places humanity at the very heart of the campaign, reflecting the theme of the Italian Expo People and Territories: Regeneration, Inclusion, Innovation.
Rome's candidacy to host the Expo in 2030, which is entering its final phase with the vote scheduled for November 28, aims to create an event that is inclusive of all nations, innovative and regenerative. It also aspires, through the strength of its project, to establish a lasting legacy for all the participating countries and the future generations that will continue beyond the Expo itself.
Special attention is given to Africa, with three types of action summarised in a special publication: Expo 2030 Roma for Africa. Projects for a Common Growth.

This publication is dedicated to all African countries and features over 210 projects from fifty Italian universities aimed at encouraging scientific collaboration with Africa by exploring new forms of cooperation for a common sustainable development.
The reason for this choice is simple: we have in our sights a renewal of the relationship with the African continent: going beyond questions of migration to develop a genuine economy of transformation in Africa. Africa cannot remain a mere source of primary materials, but must become a continent that transforms, produces and exports. This is the objective of the Expo Roma: the emergence of an effective African productive sector. In this perspective, cooperation in training, technology transfer and education will also be taken into account. Expo 2030 Roma will also pave the way for the first Universal Exposition in Africa: an objective that we are committed to achieving.
People and Territories: working together to tackle the complex global challenges
More generally, People and Territories concerns the whole planet and all its inhabitants. It encompasses areas such as the evolution and regeneration of our territories under the threat of climate change and its devastating effects; the diversity and inclusiveness of our communities; the sustainability of our urban agglomerations and the circular economy; digital connectivity as a driver of economic and social development. Expo 2030 Roma intends to address these issues, stimulate debate, indicate a shared path and identify common solutions.
Rome wishes to approach this path not by exposing itself, but by proposing to all the participating countries an operational path of collaboration and partnership, which will culminate in the exhibition and, in the years remaining until the event, in the implementation of joint projects and initiatives centred on the various national experiences and needs.
The chosen site to host the Rome Expo as a living research laboratory at the service of all the communities of the world
The site chosen to host World Expo 2030 is located in an area on the outskirts of Rome, connected to some of the city's historic districts and next to one of Rome's university campuses, which will serve as a link with the Italian capital's vast scientific community.
The exhibition will be a forum for discussion and reflection to establish and enhance new means of cooperation for human development and sustainability within the framework of the Sustainable Development Goals. The event aims to set new standards for sustainability, including zero CO2 emissions, the reuse of materials and respect for the water, air and energy cycles. In other words, not only to be a self-sufficient site, but also to be able to create and donate clean energy to other areas. The Expo 2030 Roma masterplan proposes the world's largest urban solar park, which will provide emission-free energy to the Expo site and also clean energy to 45,000 residents in this area of the city after the Expo. In this way, two strategic objectives in terms of environmental sustainability will be achieved: carbon neutrality by 2030 and net carbon zero by 2050.
A Support Plan for Developing Countries for an Expo in which all Nations are equally involved
In line with the theme of Expo 2030 Roma, People and Territories: Regeneration, Inclusion, Innovation, the organisation is planning a support programme for developing countries to ensure a wider and more effective participation in Expo 2030 Roma. The goal is to provide support for the construction of assisted pavilions and for the content of these pavilions. Should the participating country decide to do so, these pavilions will be converted to create an Open and Collaborative Knowledge Park between Italian talents and those of Developing Countries.
The Italian government will allocate €240 million to cover the costs of participation and support up to 144 Developing Countries.
Expo Roma aspires to be a centre of excellence inspired by the principles of open science, citizen science and collaborative governance, where communities and territories will become a unique ecosystem. In this framework, the support programme will play a crucial role in encouraging an active and fruitful participation of developing countries, as well as a strong commitment to shared values and objectives. In order to better reflect the democratic spirit that permeated the Roman Forum, each participating country will enjoy the same privileged position, with all the national pavilions overlooking a large central boulevard: an open, public and shared space where multilateral conversations on the Expo theme can arise and flourish. Within this space, built around the main central square, each country will be able to unfold its own universe: one country, one pavilion.

Education and research as the engines of a shared sustainable development: 20,000 scholarships for young students from all over the world through the Expo 2030 Roma
One of the greatest added values of the plan to support developing countries is the participation of the international academic research community and universities. All these players will be contributing to our project by helping to design and build the co-constructed pavilions and their exhibition materials.
The countries that will opt for a permanent pavilion will be able to keep their own research centres and local start-ups on the site, in this future Knowledge Park, where they will be able to conduct joint scientific research and welcome their young talent as part of a long-term collaborative relationship with Italy.
Expo 2030 Roma will be the ideal opportunity to create new networks with universities all over the world, setting up collaborations and specialised scientific workshops between Italian academies and the academic world of the African countries benefiting from our support plan. These cooperation projects will encourage the participation of young students, professors and researchers from all over the world. Such synergies will stimulate creativity at a local level and will be supported by Italian expertise according to the needs of each country. The Urban Open Innovation platform will be set up, offering functionalities for analysing the city and urban data as digital solutions in the search for the "city of tomorrow".
The Post-Expo seeks to promote cultural heritage by building a space in which dialogue between various players can flourish to preserve and develop the local area. Expo 2030 Roma will therefore be the starting point for a journey focused on sharing projects, ideas and resources to create a new international community, the Sustainability Generation, to whom we entrust the future of the planet.
