Kenya: Jubilee Live Free Race Hosts Over 2000 Participants in Wellness Drive

Nairobi — Jubilee Insurance and the Grand Nairobi Bike Race hosted approximately 2000 participants during the second edition of the Jubilee Live Free Race, an event that is geared towards celebrating the cycling sport and at the same time advocate for wellness, social bonding, physical activity and environmental conservation.

The diverse group of cyclists from 20 different nationalities including Burundi, Canada, France, Germany, Ivory Coast, Kenya, Netherlands, New Zealand, Nigeria, Rwanda, Slovakia, South Sudan, Sudan, Switzerland, Tanzania, Uganda, United Kingdom,United States of America (USA) and Zambia navigated through the scenic routes of Nairobi city in a competition that boasted six categories Black Mamba, Family Fun Ride, Kiddie Race, Individual Race, Veterans Race, Para-Cycling Race, and the Main Race for up to Ksh 3 million in cash prizes.

The second edition of the Jubilee Live Free Race powered by the Grand Nairobi Bike Race was flagged off by Dr Julius Kipngetch , Group CEO Jubilee Holdings in the presence of Hon Tim Wanyonyi, Westlands MP on Sunday morning.

Paul Lomuria from Kenya emerged victorious within the 75km elite male category while Barbra Kramer of Dutch nationality topped the women's category. Anthony Mugwanja within the visually impaired category clinched the first position while Kennedy Ogada from Kenya clinched the first runner's up position.

The annual competition which began last year was uniquely designed to encourage participants and the general community to embrace the benefits of cycling as a means of exercise, promoting cardiovascular health and overall fitness as the ultimate disease prevention strategy meant to reduce the burden on the health infrastructure and at the same time enable individuals and families to reduce healthcare costs in the long run.

Speaking during the event, Jubilee Holdings Chairman Nizar Juma said that the diverse array of participants from various countries across the region was a true testament to the shared enthusiasm for cycling and a collective commitment to a healthier lifestyle.

He said that Jubilee Insurance was cognizant of the recent surge in lifestyle-related illnesses and sedentary lifestyles and that Jubilee Live Free Race was therefore founded on the premise of health advocacy by demonstrating the linkage between physical activity and good health.

"The sedentary pandemic is threatening our quality of life and straining our health infrastructure. Our company's purpose is centred on empowering our customers to live free through solutions and opportunities that support them to attain financial, social, mental and physical freedom." Said Nizar

The Jubilee Live Free Race is part of bolder Wellness Initiative by Jubilee Insurance including the recently upgraded Maisha Fiti wellness platform, which seeks to offer guidance on physical and mental well-being.

The 'Do anything for the Steps ' campaign by Maisha Fiti which was launched in November in Kenya Uganda and Tanzania seeks to leverage telematics to further drive this agenda.

On her part Caroline Ndungu, Group Head of Marketing and Communications Jubilee Holdings, said that she is proud that the brand is truly living out its purpose to allow it's customers to enjoy peace of mind and to Live Free physically, mentally, emotionally, financially and even spiritually.

The Jubilee Live Free Race powered by GNBR also included continued commitments to environmental sustainability and conservation, where Jubilee Insurance and its partners pledged to build on the positive momentum by scaling tree-planting initiatives beyond Kenya to include Uganda and Tanzania.

Loise Wachira - Director at the Grand Nairobi Bike Race said that the annual Jubilee Live Free Race was designed to encourage the adoption of eco-friendly practices, including waste reduction, recycling initiatives, and carbon reduction initiatives programs and Non-Motorized Transport.
