Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) now says all its VAT returns will be pre-filled, marking a complete departure from the usual way of filing VAT returns.
In a public notice shared on the authority's official X app account, KRA says the move has been informed by their desire to simplify the tax collection process.
The taxman adds that the process will ensure that the taxpayers experience is enhanced, an opportunity that the old procedure denied them.
In the new directive, the taxpayers' tax information will be available to KRA.
"Kenya Revenue Authority wishes to notify the public and all VAT registered taxpayers that in an effort to leverage on technology and improve taxpayers experience, that VAT will be pre-filled with tax information available to KRA with effect from January 2024 tax period, to simplify the VAT return filing process for taxpayers," read the public notice by the taxman.
KRA had during its National Taxpayers Day declared its intentions to enhance digitization in its systems in a bid to scale up service delivery for Kenyan taxpayers.
This it said would also enhance revenue collection across the entire county y sealing off loopholes to avoid pilferage
