As the world convenes at COP28, December 3rd will mark the momentous announcement of the 2023 YouthADAPT Challenge winners. These pioneering businesses represent Africa's frontline fighters, dedicated to accelerating adaptation actions across the continent.
Launched in 2021, the YouthADAPT Challenge is an annual contest jointly organised by the African Development Bank and the Global Center on Adaptation as part of the Africa Adaptation Acceleration Program to spotlight innovative enterprises striving to tackle climate challenges through cutting-edge technology.
This year's winning enterprises are at the forefront of deploying Fourth Industrial Revolution technologies for climate action. They harness artificial intelligence, big data analytics, the internet of things, machine learning, additive manufacturing and blockchain for climate adaptation.
With support from the Africa Climate Change Fund, hosted by the Bank, the winners will be awarded $100,000 each, alongside an opportunity to participate in a 12-month business accelerator program to help them scale up their businesses, deepen their impact and create decent jobs. They will also join the coveted YouthADAPT Alumni Network to learn from a dynamic community of youth entrepreneurs throughout Africa.
The Challenge is strengthening inclusive growth, broadening investment channels, and fostering economic opportunities, particularly focusing on Africa's youth and women. It has empowered 33 young entrepreneurs spanning 19 African countries, providing a substantial $5.1 million to propel climate action initiatives across the continent.
The President of the African Development Bank Group, Dr Akinwumi Adesina, and the Chief Executive Officer of the Global Center on Adaptation, Prof. Dr. Patrick Verkooijen, will speak at the awards event. Attendees will include other esteemed leaders from across the world.
Join us to celebrate these pioneering women-owned businesses driving action at the frontline of the climate emergency.
