The African Union, the African Development Bank Group and Africa50 will host a signing ceremony of financial pledges for the Alliance for Green Infrastructure during COP28. The session will take place during Africa Day on Saturday, 2 December 2023, at the Africa Pavilion in the Blue Zone of Expo City Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

The signing parties will include the African Union Commission, the African Development Bank, Africa50 and local and international partners including the German, French and Japanese governments, the Arab Bank for Economic Development in Africa (BADEA), Banque Ouest Africaine de Développement (BOAD), Proparco and the Three Cairns Foundation.

The financial backing from prestigious partners affirms AGIA's strategic importance in accelerating the continent's transition to net zero and stimulating private investment in green infrastructure in Africa.

Speakers will include Germany's Minister of Economic Cooperation and Development Svenja Schulze; Jean-Christophe Donnellier, inspector general and minister counselor in the French Treasury and a former co-chair of the board of Green Climate Fund; Mr. Tomoyoshi Yahagi, Deputy Vice Minister of Finance, Japan; AUC Chairperson Moussa Faki Mahamat; African Development Bank Group President Dr Akinwumi A. Adesina, Africa50 CEO Alain Ebobissé and donor representatives.

AGIA, co-founded by the African Union Commission, the African Development Bank, Africa50 and other global partners, was launched at COP27 to unlock $10 billion private capital in green infrastructure projects on the continent and to facilitate the global action required to accelerate Africa's just and equitable transition to Net-Zero. To achieve this goal, AGIA is raising $500 million in early-stage blended capital to prepare and develop green infrastructure projects up to financial close for private sector investment.
