Kenya: Marakwet Police Officer Lynched After Rescuing Girls Subjected to FGM

Nairobi — Detectives in Marakwet have launched probe into the death of a police officer who was killed Monday when irate youth attacked Maron Police Post within Embolot Location.

Police say that the suspects who were armed with stones and crude weapons stormed the police station and and stoned the officer to death at around 1000hrs.

The incident happened after a combined team of National Police Service (NPS) Officers from Chesoi Police Station and General Service Unit (GSU) officers rescued six girls who had been subjected to Female Genital Mutilation and escorted them to Embobut Police Post.

Police reports indicate that the suspects partly burned the officer's body using his mattress and escaped with a G3 Riffle during the melee.

The incident come just two days before NPS Commemorative Service for Officers killed in the line of duty.
