Kenya: Natembeya Urges Prisons to Expand Technical Training to Inmates

Nairobi — Tans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya, has called on prisons to expand their technical training to inmates so that they may have a smooth sail upon release.

The governor who was speaking after spending time with inmates at the Kitale Annex prison, said that this will enable inmates to secure jobs and start their own businesses after being released.

"I further encouraged them(the prisons) to expand the technical skills training offered to equip inmates with the tools to start their own businesses or secure employment upon release," he stated on X.

He further secured the release of 35 inmates at the Annex prison so that they may get a chance to enjoy Christmas with their families.

The governor encouraged them to make use of the technical skills that they have grasped in the facility so as to generate income and improve their lives.

He urged them to live positively and avoid any activities that may lead them to be exposed to crimes again.

"I urged them to avoid any activities that could lead them back to crime, and instead, become positive influences and empower others facing similar challenges," he said.

He expressed his appreciation to prison management for the amount of dedication that they have put into rehabilitating the inmates.

"I expressed my sincere gratitude to the prison management for their unwavering dedication and professionalism in rehabilitating the inmates," he said.
