Kenya: Private Sector to Offer Graduates Internships in a Deal With State

30 January 2024

Nairobi — Kenyan graduates are set to get internships in the private sector through a new pact between the government and the Kenya Private Sector Alliance (KEPSA).

Public Service Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria stated that the new collaboration will benefit those left out of the government's internship program.

Sectors that will absorb graduates in the private realm include manufacturing, banking and insurance, telecommunication, retail, academia, and hospitality, among others.

CS Kuria spoke today after holding a consultative meeting with KEPSA Executive Director Gloria Ndekei.

Under its internship program, the government received a total of 57,000 applications last year, with 8,000 being absorbed into the public service.

The Public Service Internship Programme is a government initiative designed to offer college graduates the opportunity to acquire and develop valuable technical and professional skills while gaining work experience.

The initiative also certifies the requirements for registration by various professional bodies.
