Nairobi — A Kenyan fugitive wanted by the authorities in the United States in connection with the killing of his girlfriend has been arrested.

Kevin Kangethe, 40 who has been on the run, was arrested on Monday in an entertainment joint in Nairobi's Westlands area.

Kangethe is suspected to have murdered Margaret Mbitu in Massachusetts sometime between October 30 and November 4, 2023.

While confirming the arrest, the US Embassy in Nairobi thanked the Kenyan authorities for their efforts in locating Kangethe.

"United States law enforcement, the Kenyan Directorate of Criminal Investigations, and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions have been working side by side to locate and capture the fugitive," said the US Embassy in Nairobi.

The body of Mbitu was discovered in a car at a Logan Airport garage in Massachusetts days after she was reported missing, triggering a manhunt for Kangethe who is said to have boarded a flight to Kenya after the incident.

The US pledged to work together with Kenya towards strengthening law enforcement cooperation to apprehend criminal offenders, eliminate criminal activities, and advance justice.
