Zimbabwe: Zim Cultural, Musical Festival Preps At Advanced Stage

20 February 2024

Organisers for the much-awaited Zimbabwe Cultural and Musical Festival to be held next month in the United States, have said preparations for the show are at an advanced stage.

The show which will be held for two days on March 30-31 in Dallas, Texas will see some of the local top musicians sharing the stage.

The line-up includes Freeman, Trevor Dongo, Julian King, Tammy Moyo, and Shastro among others.

In an interview with The Herald, show host Bevan Makaka said is happy with the response so far from the diaspora market over the show and is willing to sit down with local artistes back home to discuss possible ways to promote them in the United States.

He said preparations are going on well with artistes confirming their participation.

"The preparations are going well, the people are so excited and I am coming to Zimbabwe for maybe three days to sit down with some of the local artistes, to plan for the show, and also link up on other projects," he said.

"I will then return with the crew back for the show. The show is about experiencing the culture of Zimbabwe from music, language, fashion and food to the American."

Makaka said the show will be hosted by social media guru Tariro Gezi.

"We have already released the posters and flyers for the show with Tariro Gezi expected to host the fiesta."

He added that is continuing to foster local music and cultural activities, in the United States.

The businessman and arts promoter Makaka of the Xcelerate fame said this is not the first time hosting such as before they had another one last year dubbed "Zim Connect" in Dallas, Texas.

It had Tamy Moyo sharing the stage with Zimdancehall sensation Poptain, Enzo Ishall, urban groover ExQ, DJ Tamuka, and Levels.

The local acts also toured the US, as well as connecting with some artistes and business opportunities.

"There are great opportunities for artistes in the business sector that we will line up for them. Those whom we have selected will also have an opportunity to visit other cities," he said.

Makaka said there was a high demand for local live music.

"We have done the survey and seems there is a hunger for local live performances. This is not our first show as we tested the waters by starting with a gospel show which featured Minister Michael Mahendere," he said.

"It was very successful and our fans, later on, demanded that we do a show not gospel related henceforth got in touch with some of the artistes who are the crowd's favourite here. We are planning another gospel show which will see maybe top local gospel acts in the US. It is still in the diary."

Makaka said the artistes who are travelling will have an opportunity to shoot musical videos if they want.

"Depending on their schedule, I am going to link them to some of the best videographers here and they can shoot their musical videos apart from having interviews with radio and television in the United States," he said.
