- The SAPS Limpopo dedicated Visible Task Team, operating across the province, has successfully apprehended several suspects linked to a spate of serious crimes that have plagued the areas over recent months.
Following an intensive investigation, bolstered by intelligence-led operations and community tip-offs, the task force conducted a series of coordinated raids early this morning, resulting in the arrest of five suspects between the ages of 29 and 55.
Two suspects, aged 29 and 30, were arrested at Rakgoatha Village in Moletlane, Sekhukhune District. These criminals were being sought for three cases of business robbery, committed around Lebowakgomo and Moletlane policing precincts.
The members also located a motor vehicle that was stolen in Gauteng province. The vehicle was recovered in Giyani with the assistance of other disciplines such as the Mopani District tracking team and flying squad and the private security company. The 55-year-old female suspect was found in possession of the vehicle, and she was detained and charged with possession of a suspected stolen motor vehicle.
This team of members also recovered a motor vehicle hijacked in Levubu, Vhembe District, shortly after it was hijacked in Hamutsha Village. Upon seeing that they were being cornered, the unknown suspects abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot.
In addition, two suspects aged 35 and 42 were nabbed for charges of possession and dealing in illicit cigarettes and drugs in Lebowakgomo. 74 sachets of nyaope drugs, 15 sachets of Crystal Meth, 14 packets of Remington cigarettes, and undisclosed amount of cash were confiscated.
"The swift action of the SAPS Visible Task Team in collaboration with other units and external role players especially the private sector has not only led to these arrests but has also significantly disrupted the operations of this criminal network, restoring a measure of safety and security to the affected communities", said Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, the Provincial Commissioner.
The suspects are expected to appear before the respective Magistrate's Court soon.
Police investigations continue.
