The Agricultural Marketing Authority's recent extension of the deadline for the submission of expressions of interest for the provision of a National Biometric Farmer Database Management System (NBFDMS) ends today.
NBFDMS is an innovative platform that combines biometric technology with farmer data management.
This comes as the authority had given interested parties a grace period to prepare their proposals from March 29 to today.
Details of all producers of agricultural commodities across the country will be captured in the database that is meant to enhance AMA's ability to link them with markets.
Announcing the registration extension on X (formerly twitter), AMA recently said the move was an added advantage to those who had not yet submitted their forms.
"AMA is seeking reputable ICT firms capable of delivering a flawless NBFDMS for the benefit of the organisation. To qualify for consideration, respondents must meet specific requirements outlined by AMA.
"Firstly, interested companies must be registered with the Procurement Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe (PRAZ). They are also required to possess a valid tax clearance and a valid NSSA clearance certificate. Proper incorporation according to Zimbabwean laws is another prerequisite for participation. In addition, companies must demonstrate their capacity to undertake the project, showcasing technical competency and at least five years of experience in the ICT field," read the notice.
The notice further highlighted that, AMA would conduct a due diligence examination on prospective companies in line with the PRAZ regulations.

"Interested companies should provide information demonstrating that they have the required qualifications, relevant skills, and experience to provide the services.
"The submission should include a one-page written summary of the Expression of Interest, along with a company profile highlighting the experience of key personnel, their curriculum vitae's and a minimum of two business references. A portfolio of past successful projects is also expected," read the notice.
Also, shortlisted companies will be invited to submit detailed technical and financial proposals, as described in the Standard Request for Proposals (PUBLIC PROCUREMENT AND DISPOSAL OF PUBLIC ASSETS CHAPTER 22:23)
The detailed expression of interest document is obtainable from AMA head office, upon payment of a non-refundable fee of US$10 or local currency equivalent at ruling bank rate.
Meanwhile, the database will, among other things, allow AMA to monitor production trends in line with Government's for-market-driven production.
It will also be key in building business models around food production by ensuring that farmers produce according to demand.
AMA chief executive officer said the database would provide a reference point for all agricultural input schemes.
"It is important that information is gathered stored and processed for informed decision-making, hence AMA is putting in place all these measures to complement Government's efforts to revive the agriculture industry and achieve Vision 2030," Mr Isaya said recently.
