Kenya: Kande Confirmed As Knqa Director General

Nairobi — Alice Kande has been confirmed as the new Kenya National Qualification Authority(KNQA) Director General to replace Juma Mukhwana who is currently serving as the Industry Principal Secretary.

In a statement, the authority's chairman Stanley Kiptis stated that Kande will serve as the DG for a period of five years.

Kande outshined the other 12 shortlisted candidates who were interviewed on Tuesday 27th and 28th of February this year.

"The council shortlisted 12 candidates who were interviewed on Tuesday, 27th February 2024 and Wednesday February 2024. Following deliberations and careful considerations, the council appoints Dr Alice Waitimu Kande as the DG/CEO for a five-year term," he stated.

Kande has been the acting Director General of the authority since December 7, 2022, following the exit of Mukhwana.

Kiptis pointed out that Alice has fully delivered for the time she has been the acting DG and he is confident that she will continue showcasing a remarkable preface in her permanent appointment in the position.

"We have confidence in her leadership and hope she will steer the organization well, she has delivered for the period she has served as the acting DG," he stated.

She also served as the Deputy director general in charge of planning, Research, outreach, and policy at the authority.

The DG pointed out that Alice has served as an instrumental individual at the company who has actively engaged in various national national policies at the authority including the Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)

Appreciating the appointment Kande expressed her commitment to collaborating with all stakeholders in order to fully realise the KNQA mandate
