African Development Bank will hold the third meeting of the heads of regional and continental institutions on the sidelines of its 2024 Annual Meetings on the 30th of May in Nairobi, Kenya. This roundtable discussion will feature the Bank President, Dr. Akinwumi Adesina, and leaders of the African Union Commission, the AfCFTA Secretariat, Afreximbank, Africa50, regional economic communities, and selected regional development Banks.

The event will build consensus around the critical role of regional integration in Africa's economic recovery. Participants will share and learn about resource mobilization initiatives. The meeting is expected to enhance cooperation around the approved joint action plan and the newly created cooperation platform, facilitating streamlined efforts and shared strategies among the various institutions. The action plan was proposed to improve coordination on large-scale initiatives and flagship programs, including investments in regional corridors, advocacy support for the African Development Fund's 17th replenishment and the AfCFTA Adjustment Facility. The cooperation platform is intended to facilitate structured informal exchanges between African DFIs and regional and continental institutions.

This meeting builds on the first two editions organized during the Bank's Annual Meetings held in Accra, Ghana, in 2022 and Sharm-El-Sheikh, Egypt, in 2023. It also follows a recent technical meeting held in Abidjan late last month.

Its overarching objective is to explore options to mobilize capital for regional investments and deeper integration. The meeting will review the proposed joint action plan and terms of reference for the cooperation platform, discussing ways to improve coordination and synergies on flagship programs and projects pivotal to regional integration.
