Kenya: Govt Moves to Dispose Vehicles, Equipment As Fiscal Year Ends

Nairobi — Several government agencies are disposing of vehicles and equipment ahead of a new financial year (FY) starting on July 1, 2024.

In an advertisement, the National Irrigation Authority (NIA) is planning to sell motor vehicles, spare parts, assorted farm implements, and tires at Mwea, Hola, Bora, and Bunyala Irrigation Schemes.

The National Drought Management Authority (NDMA) lists unserviceable items, motor vehicles, and stores.

NDMA has appointed Trenad Auctioneers (Northern Kenya), Valley Auctioneers (Rift Valley), and Speedman Commercial Agencies Ltd. (Coastal Region).

The Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) is also seeking to sell laptops, phones, and tires, among others.

The disposal comes as the 2023-2025 FY is set to end on June 30, 2024.

Only last month did the National Treasury announce that the Budget Statement for the 2024-2025 FY will be read on June 13, 2024.

CS Njuguna Ndung'u said that the budget statement will be submitted to parliament at 3 p.m.

According to the National Assembly Budget and Appropriations Committee chairperson, Ndindi Nyoro, the government projects a Sh4.25 trillion budget for the 2024-2025 fiscal year, an increase from Sh3.6 trillion in the previous FY ending June 30, 2024.

The government's 2024-2025 expenditure plan shall be shared between Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs), including allocations for county governments.

In the Sh4.2 trillion budget, the Teachers Service Commission (TSC), transport, housing, education, and security sectors are set to set the largest share in the 2024-2025 FY.

During the formulation of the 2024 Budget Policy Statement (BPS), the budget committee recommended the national government budget ceiling be approved, with the executive being allocated a share of estimated Sh2.489 trillion, the Office of the Auditor General Sh8.6 billion, Parliament Sh43.62 billion, and the Judiciary Sh23.69 billion.

The committee also recommended that Sh391.1 billion be allocated to the county government's Equitable Share.
