Angola: Winners of 2024 Environmental Sustainability Award Get Prizes

Talatona — The winners of the first 2024 edition of the Environmental Sustainability Award received their respective prizes on Tuesday, in Luanda Province.

This year's winners were honoured in the categories of Civil Society, Agribusiness, Sustainable Media, Sustainable Start-up and Environmental Social Responsibility.

The event created on the initiative of the companies Semente Viva and Lespambiente, awarded the company Organização para o Desenvolvimento das Comunidades Rurais (ODCR) in the Sustainable Media category.

The company Narisrec Resíduos Electrónicos was honoured with the Sustainable Startup category, while the Agrarian Environmental Sustainability category went to the company Jardim do Yoba, located in Huila province, and the Environmental Social Responsibility' went to the company Kora Angola.

On the occasion, the general director of the company Semente Viva, Pinto Fiel, said that the main aim was to make the award a national reference for all institutions that regularly promote environmental sustainability.

He said that the aim was to pay tribute to all the organisations, both individually and collectively, that have developed actions aimed at safeguarding environmental sustainability in Angola.

The official said that environmental sustainability is a set of practices that consist of the conscious and rational use of natural resources, in order to avoid destructive exploitation.

"Sustainability is a crucial element in the protection and valorization of the environment", he highlighted.

In turn, the executive director of the Quissama Foundation, Vladimir Russo, explained that it is important to celebrate the victories with the organisations and people working to defend the environment in Angola.

Vladimir Russo said that one of the purposes is to bring together a group of people who have done transformative work in the country, not only from the point of view of the environment, but also in terms of job creation and the formation of human capital.

"This symbolic award addresses environmental, social, economic and legal issues, an automatic cross-cutting approach", he said.

The Angolan Environmental Sustainability Award, created on the initiative of the companies Semente Viva and Lespambiente, aims to encourage the rational and sustainable exploitation of natural resources, as well as raising awareness in society about the importance of an increasingly clean environment.

For the award's creators, it is also a way of recognising the efforts of companies in the sector, particularly those operating in the country and demonstrating a strong commitment to environmental sustainability.

All companies and individuals with large or small initiatives that promote the well-being and protection of the sustainable environment are eligible to apply for the award.

The event presented, includes several categories, with emphasis on those for Civil Society, Agribusiness, Sustainable Media, Telecommunications, Banking and Insurance, as well as the Mining and Environmental sector.
