Africa: Ignore Digitally Manipulated Video of US First Lady Jill Biden Attacked About Her Husband On TV

Ignore digitally manipulated video of US first lady Jill Biden attacked about her husband on TV

IN SHORT: US first lady Jill Biden appeared on the talk show The View in May 2024. But the video circulating on social media which shows her talking to a male "host" about her husband being "too old" to run for a second term as president was doctored.

A video of Jill Biden, the first lady of the United States, apparently being attacked by an unidentified man is doing the rounds on social media.

The video appears to show Biden being interviewed on a TV show, with a man sitting next to her. He accuses Biden of covering up her husband Joe Biden's ill health and inability to perform his duties as president.

The man says: "This election is not about age. It is about being able to walk without getting lost, it is about being able to find your way off a stage, it is about being able to go up and down the stairs without falling, it is about being able to finish a sentence, all of which Joe is not able to do on a daily basis. I have seen it, you have seen it."

Joe Biden, 81, is seeking a second term in the November 2024 US presidential elections.

The same video has been posted here and here. (Note: See more instances listed at the end of this report.)

But did an unidentified man attack Jill Biden like this on TV? We checked.

Manipulated video

Africa Check took screenshots of the video and ran them through a Google reverse image search. This led us to the original video, posted on YouTube by US talk show The View on 29 May 2024. Biden is wearing the same clothes in the original video as in the one circulating on Facebook.

The View has six female hosts: Whoopi Goldberg, Joy Behar, Sunny Hostin, Sara Haines, Alyssa Farah Griffin and Ana Navarro. It is suspicious that the video circulating on Facebook shows Biden talking to a man.

A closer look at the video in question also shows the handle @damonimani. We did a Google search for this and found this Instagram account.

The account posted the video of Biden with the male host and captioned it: "Jill Biden tried her best to make Joe appealing; failed miserably as guest absolutely demolished her with reality. Satire but true."

The account's owner appears to have cut footage of himself into several other TV interviews, including here, here and here.

While the Instagram account claims the videos are satirical, other social media users have republished them as fact.

Satire can be defined as "the use of humour or exaggeration in order to show how foolish or wicked some people's behaviour or ideas are". But when satire is presented as fact, it becomes disinformation.
