Uganda: Six Security Guards Remanded Over Pulling Gun On Nyamutoro

The Kabale Grade One Magistrate has remanded six private security guards to Ndorwa prison over attempt to shoot a minister at the weekend.

The six guards, attached to Wolves Security Company, are facing even counts among which attempting to shoot Minister for State for Mineral Development, Ms Phiona Nyamutoro.

Last week at Katojo in Muko Subcounty in Rubanda, Nyamutoro and a technical team from the directorate of survey and mines were inspecting mining sites in the district when they faced resistance at STEAM mines.

Nyamutoro was in the area after receiving complaints from directors of STEAM, who alleged that their exploration license had been trespassed upon by unknown people working illegally for John Muluri Muyambi and the National Cement Company..

The persecution told Magistrate Julius Mutabazi that the accused persons cocked their guns and attempted to shoot at Minister Nyamutoro and her technical team.

The guards are Deo Kiza, Robert Okulu, Anthony Nuwagaba, Mathias Kajugo, Robert Muchunguzi and Hassan Omani.

They pleaded not guilty to the charges that included attempted murder.

Mutabazi told the accused that they have a right to apply for bail. However, none of them had the required crudities.

"As court we can not grant bail to one person. You will all be granted bail once you present the requirements and the court hereby remand you and adjourn the case to July 18," Mutabazi said.
