Uganda: NRM Youth Pledge to Be Vanguards in Museveni War On Graft

President Yoweri Museveni.

A group of youth that subscribe to the National Resistance Movement ideology has vowed to join President Museveni to fight corruption "like never before".

The youth say now that the president assured the country of his knowledge and evidence that some parliamentarians and Finance ministry staff are corrupt, the young people are committed to patriotically play the whistleblower roles.

"We will begin with our constituencies to ensure that we carry out our own lifestyle audit on these public servants before even the IGG comes in, this we will be joining President Museveni in the fight against the corruption," Zephier Muhangi, the NRM regional coordinator or western Uganda Directorate of Mobilisation, said.

"We can now all see the practical war the president has waged on corrupt officials and if he continues with this pace then we are yet to see the results like never before, and we are ready and willing to join the fight"

Junior Akansasira, the NRM regional coordinator for institutions of learning, said that despite the available programmes, funds continue to be diverted.

He said this was "disabling the young entrepreneurs" that would be benefitting from the funds.

"It is incumbent upon us to speak up so we can fight the common enemy called corruption," Akansasira said.

"We have very many young people getting out of universities but can't find employment. Corruption in public offices can't allow them to find employment unless one bribes."

Phoebe Agunyo, a beneficiary of State House scholarship programme, commended the President for the initiative for the many students who have benefited from it but is quick to mention the irregularities that engulfed the system.

The President will, on July 5, join the NRM youth groups in Kololo to, among the key issues, to discuss is the role of the youth in fighting corruption in the country.
