Uganda: Mayiga Condemns Exploitation of Kabaka's Condition

The Katikkiro of Buganda, Charles Peter Mayiga, has again castigated those exploiting the Kabaka's condition to fulfill their own agendas.

During his address to the Lukiiko on Monday, the Katikkiro updated the kingdom's subjects about the Kabaka's health and condemned those who have turned their efforts towards disparaging the kingdom.

"When they see the Kabaka here, they say that now the Kabaka should be taken for treatment, but when he goes for treatment, they claim the Katikkiro is hiding him," Mayiga said.

The Katikkiro informed the Lukiiko that he had spoken with the Kabaka the previous and that the king had thanked him greatly for managing the kingdom's affairs well in his absence.

The Lukiiko appreciated the Katikkiro's remarks on the Kabaka's health and agreed that Buganda should condemn those who disparage the Kingdom to gain political favour.

Mayiga added that the Kabaka is not an ordinary person; therefore, his privacy should be respected and all the allegations about his being incommunicado should be treated with the contempt they deserve.

These remarks come just a few days after the Kingdom of Buganda released a statement read by the Katikkiro detailing the Kabaka's health condition, stating that although the king is unwell, it is not severe.
