Zimbabwe: Zanu (PF) Plans School of Ideology

ZANU PF plans to build a college named after assassinated hero Herbert Chitepo where people will be taught politics and ideology.

Mr Mayor Urimbo, the party's national political commissar and a member of the central committee, said: "We will ask the commissars who instructed the people during the struggle and are now working in Government departments to teach at the college in their free time."

Members of the central committee would also assist in the teaching.

Mr Urimbo said that the present series of weekend political meetings were designed to acquaint people in areas not reached by commissars during the war with ZANU (PF) ideology and policy.

Asked what would happen to the party headquarters at 88 Manica Road, now being repaired after being wrecked by a bomb, Mr Urimbo said the party would continue to use the offices until the new headquarters was built.

The new building would be constructed in an uncongested area to enable tighter security to be maintained.

Mr Urimbo, expressed satisfaction at the people's response to the call by the Prime Minister, Mr Mugabe to give cash for building the new headquarters. "We never thought there was going to be such a response from different communities and organisations," he said.

He urged the people to go on with the restructuring of the party at cell, branch, district and provincial levels until it is completed.

The central committee wanted all the 54 districts to be well-organised before holding the party congress.

"When the reorganisation is completed, then we will decide when to hold it," he said. -- ZIS.
