Uganda: The 'Museveni Funded FDC' Question Now Settled - Amuriat

The President of the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC), Patrick Amuriat, has said the narrative that his opposition party was being funded by President Museveni has been unraveled.

When divisions within the FDC reached their peak in 2023, some members accused Amuriat and party secretary Nathan Nandala Mafabi of receiving suspicious funds from Museveni in the run-up to the 2021 presidential election.

The story has since remained amid doubts about the source of the opposition party's funds.

However, appearing on NBS Morning Breeze, Amuriat said the story was spread by political opponents and that the party has never received any money from Museveni.

He cited the recent 'successful' consultative meetings in Soroti and Mbale as a benchmark for why the public believes FDC is not working with Museveni.

"It has been ignored now and the numbers of people who came to speak to us and to be spoken in Soroti, Mbale should speak volumes to people who are moving that narrative. It is a total waste of time. And we did everything that was humanly possible to ensure that we clear the air on this," he said.

Amuriat further told NBS that the matter was investigated by the party's National Council, which found them innocent and the matter was disposed of.

"We had internal discussions on this matter. I convened a number of meetings with the national council which resolved interrogated and resolved this matter. The elders' committee sat and after cleaning us, some people said it's rubbish," he said.

Amuriat noted that the party is clearly telling the truth about the source of funding for the 2021 presidential election, and that anyone with evidence to the contrary is free to testify.

"People saying FDC is going to hand over party to Museveni, the party is still intact and working normally. Nobody received Museveni's money. Museveni money question was resolved."
