Uganda: Police Investigate Hoima Councilors Over Pocketing Shs100m Emyooga Funds

Police in Hoima have kicked off investigations into allegations of diversion of Emyooga funds amounting to shs100 million by councilors.

It is alleged that the councilors pocketed the funds at the expense of the intended beneficiaries.

Among those implicated is Patrick Rusoke, the LC3 councilor for Buraru sub county who is accused of pocketing shs15 million.

"It is true, we have summoned Rusoke but there are many councilors we are investigating over Emyooga funds. We will keep the country updated of the ongoing investigations," Albertine region police spokesperson, Julius Hakiza told the Nile Post.

According to a list this website has seen, a number of councilors including Rusoke signed for Emyooga funds using different names but the money was sent to their mobile phone numbers.

Recently, the Hoima RDC and LCV chairman Uthman Mugisha asked police to investigate the councilors following several complaints from the members of the public who were supposed to get the funds but didn't.

Mugisha confirmed being summoned to make a statement at police.

Michael Kyakashari the deputy RDC says he got concerned when most groups were not returning the money , only to find out that it had landed into wrong hands.

"We cannot watch on as government money intended for the poor is being taken. Not only Rusoke will be arrested but many other councillors. They will not only be arrested but will also be forced to pay back the money."
