Police in Buwenge township of Jinja have arrested two of their own over the death of suspect.

The duo, whose names have been withheld, were assigned to arrest Paul Gusango over domestic violence.

This after his wife Sharifah Kantono reported a case of assaulted at Buwenge Central Police Station on June 28.

It is alleged that Mr Gusango, a resident of Kalebera village in Namagera Town Council, Jinja District, evaded arrest which prompted police and community members to pursue him.

During the ensuing fracas, the suspect was assaulted leading to severe head injuries which prompted Police to rush him Buwenge General Hospital for treatment where he breathed his last.

The suspect's death has led to the arrest two police officers attached to Buwenge Central Police Station.

Kiira Region Police spokesperson James Mubi said the two officers are helping with investigations.

Mubi said Police have also intensified the hunt for other community members who participated in the assault leading to death of the suspect.

"Buwenge police has intensified search for Sharifah Katono' brother who are accomplices in this murder case," Mubi said

"On July 7, 2024, Katono's brothers made a follow-up on the case, where two police officers went to conduct an arrest but the suspect exhibited violent behaviour, took off and the in-laws persuade after him and upon arrest he was beaten causing head injuries"

"Despite efforts from the police officers to restrain the mob, the law enforcers were over powered and continued assaulting the suspect."

He added that Police rushed the victim to nearby health facility for treatment but later was referred to Buwenge general hospital for further management where he succumbed to injuries on July 9, 2024.

According to Mubi, the deceased had been accusing his wife Katono of having extramarital affair with a man yet to be identified, leading to endless fights in their home.

He cautions couples to always restrain from being aggressive.

"Married people and all those in relationships should have respect for their spouses and avoid being aggressive in action and character towards the people they treasure," Mubi said.
