Residents of Byangiri in Nakatoogo Parish, Nabigasa Sub-county, Kyotera District are in shock and fear after the body of Polofi Tamale, a prominent coffee farmer, was found in his coffee estate.
The discovery comes after a two-day search for the 57-year-old, who went missing on Sunday.
Tamale's body was discovered just a kilometre from his home, lying in one of his coffee estates.
A well-known figure in the community, Tamale was not only a prominent coffee farmer but also owned several rental houses in Byangiri town.
Leonard Ssentongo, the Byangiri village chairman, and Tamale's brother recounted the events leading up to his death.
"We saw him moving with Bwanika, who picked him to go and drink," Ssentongo said.
Tamale had left his home on Saturday, July 6 with a friend identified as Bwanika to drink.
Relatives and friends of the late Tamale revealed that he was a habitual drinker, often neglecting food.
"Every time he could drink, he could not eat food," locals revealed.
Some attribute his death to overdrinking and poor nutrition.
However, Tamale's wife, Rose Namata, suspects foul play and has called for a thorough investigation.
"There are people he has been battling with over ownership of children. I think that could be the cause of his death," Ms Namata said.
Twaha Kasirye, the spokesperson for the police in Masaka, confirmed that investigations are ongoing.
"We have taken the deceased's body to Kalisizo hospital to ascertain the cause of his death," Kasirye said.
