Uganda: UPDF Recruits 83 in Elgon Sub-Region As First Phase Ends

The UPDF has successfully recruited 83 applicants from Sironko and Bulambuli districts, marking the conclusion of the first phase of a national recruitment exercise in the Elgon Sub-region.

Colonel James Barigye Rukundo, who led the recruitment team, reported that 42 recruits were from Sironko and 41 from Bulambuli, including 22 females.

He highlighted the fairness and merit-based nature of the selection process, stating that it fully achieved its goals.

Mr. Bayole Stanley, the Resident District Commissioner for Bulambuli, encouraged the new recruits to uphold good conduct and dedicate themselves to their training in order to serve Uganda with honor and integrity.

"You have gone through a rigorous and transparent interview process. I urge you to remain patriotic and disciplined to serve Uganda with dignity and integrity," he said.

Similarly, Mr. Giruli David Livingstone, the District Chairperson of Sironko, expressed his appreciation to the UPDF leadership for providing the youth with the opportunity to serve their nation.

Several applicants were disqualified for reasons such as inconsistencies in their academic documents and national identity cards, as well as medical issues.

Those found with forged documents were handed over to Sironko Central Police Station for further investigation.

The two-day recruitment exercise was observed by the Deputy Resident District Commissioner for Sironko, Hajjat Nabukalu Nulu, along with other senior officials.
