Uganda: Museveni Condemns 'Cowardly' Attempted Assassination On Trump

President Museveni has expressed sympathies and condemned the assassination attempt targeting former US President and Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump.

The suspected shooter, identified by the FBI as 20-year Thomas Matthew Crooks, was reportedly swiftly killed by Secret Service agents at the scene.

On Tuesday, Museveni joined global leaders to extend concerns and condemn the attack, which he described as cowardly and despicable.

"On behalf of the Government and people of Uganda, and on my own behalf, I wish to convey our deep and heartfelt sympathies to His Excellency. At the same time, I condemn this despicable and cowardly assassination attempt that put his life and that of his supporters at risk," Museveni said on X.

In his message, Museveni also extended condolences to the family that lost their loved one during the attack, further saying political violence in an form, threatens democracy.

"As freedom fighters and peace-lovers, we condemn political violence because it threatens democracy wherever it manifests. I wish His Excellency and all those injured a speedy recovery. Our thoughts and prayers are with them," Museveni said.

Museveni joins a list of global leaders including his counterparts in Canada, France, India, China, Russia, who have similarly condemned the assassination attempt on the former US President.

Following the incident, US President, Joe Biden urged Americans to "lower the temperature" and to resolve differences without shedding blood.

"We cannot allow this violence to be normalised," Biden said.

U.S. authorities are still investigating the shooting as an act of domestic terrorism.
