Uganda: Six Out to Unseat Nup's Christine Ndiwalana in Bukomansimbi

Kitanda Subcounty LC3 Chairperson Joseph Kamuli (NUP) has announced his candidacy to unseat the current Member of Parliament for Bukomansimbi North, Ndiwalana Christine (NUP), in the upcoming 2026 general elections.

This development sets the stage for a heated intra-party contest within the National Unity Platform (NUP), a party that has seen significant success in recent elections.

Kamuli has joined other five contenders that include JEEMA's Hajji Muhammad Kateregga, NRM's Ruth Katushabe, NUP's Fred Nyenje Kayiira, NUP's Idd Lubyayi Kisiki and NRM's Salim Kiseka who have showed interest to unseat incumbent Ndiwalana Chiristine.

Kamuli Joseph, known for his proactive leadership as the LC3 Chairperson of Kitanda Subcounty, has gained popularity for his hands-on approach to local governance.

His tenure has been marked by initiatives aimed at improving local infrastructure, healthcare, and education.

His decision to run for the MP seat highlights his ambition to bring his leadership skills to a broader stage.

Several times, Kamuli has engaged in community work (Bulungi bwansi) with residents to fix the potholes in Bukomansimbi roads.

"I believe it's time for fresh ideas and new energy in Bukomansimbi North. While Hon. Ndiwalana has served the constituency, I see areas where we can do more and do better. My track record in Kitanda speaks for itself, and I am ready to take on this new challenge," said Kamuli Joseph during an interview with Nile post.

Ndiwalana has been serving as the Member of Parliament for Bukomansimbi North, the position which she took for the last three years. Ndiwalana won the position in the 2021 election which was represented by the NRMs Ruth Katushabe.

Kamuli said that he appreciates Ndiwalana's efforts especially helping schools to get better sanitation and clean water, but he feels that there are some issues that could be addressed effectively.

"Hon. Ndiwalana has done a commendable job, but we need to continuously evolve and adapt to meet the needs of our people. The feedback I've received suggests that there's a desire for change," Kamuli stated.

Kamuli also said he wanted to show some leaders who were thinking that he cannot even contest on LCV seats because of books.

"I am committed to serving all people in my capacity without attacking anyone. It is time for us, the youth, to take on leadership roles. Our mission is to lead as young, strong individuals dedicated to our Kingdom of Buganda. We must take up the shield and fight for Nnamulondo because many people do not know their boundaries when discussing the Buganda Kingdom. Even top leaders sometimes say things on camera that we never expected, despite our vow to respect, fight for, and protect the secrets of the kingdom and Nnamulondo, ensuring its strength and integrity."

"We have noticed gaps in our representation from members of parliament, particularly here in Bukomansimbi. We are not hearing the voices of our MPs as we should be. It's time for a change."

The decision by Joseph Kamuli to challenge a fellow NUP member brings a unique dynamic to the upcoming elections.

The NUP, led by Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, has been known for its unity and collective push for change across Uganda.

However, internal contests like this one are a testament to the democratic principles within the party. Kamuli has joined Fred Nyenje Kayiira the incumbent Bukomansimbi district chairperson also a member of NUP.

Political analysts suggest that this race will test the party's ability to handle internal competition while maintaining its overall unity and focus on broader national goals.

Joseph Kamuli has emphasized his commitment to grassroots development and inclusive governance.

He has promised to focus on improving infrastructure, healthcare, and education, and to ensure that the voices of all constituents are heard and respected.

Meanwhile, Ndiwalana is preparing to defend her seat by highlighting her achievements and ongoing projects.

She remains confident that her track record will resonate with voters and secure her another term.

As the election season heats up even before the expected time, Bukomansimbi North is set to witness an engaging and competitive race.

The outcome will not only determine the next member of parliament but also influence the future dynamics within the NUP and the district's development trajectory
