Uganda: NSSF Boosts Kavc International Volleyball Tournament

The 26th edition of the Kampala Amateur Volleyball Club (KAVC) international tournament has been boosted by a Shs 45 million kitty from the National Social Security Fund (NSSF).

Presented today at the Uganda Olympic Committee premises in Lugogo, this package has come in time for the KAVC tournament, which begins tomorrow, August 2 and runs up to Sunday, August 4 in the Lugogo indoor stadium, and on the National Hockey Ground.

While speaking at the unveiling of the sponsorship package, Barbra Arimi, head of marketing and corporate affairs at NSSF said that it feels them with pride to contribute to the growth of volleyball in Uganda through their partnership with KAVC. This is a partnership that has existed for the last 15 years.

In fact, because of the ever-growing partnership, the KAVC international volleyball tournament has gained much traction and recognition, as the premier volleyball league in East Africa. Top teams from Burundi, Rwanda, Kenya, and Tanzania among others have graced this tournament, allowing Ugandan clubs to engage in top-level competition in the region, hence enriching the skills of local talent, Arimi noted.

Irene Kiconco, the KAVC president (a club started in 1970) could not hide her delight at NSSF's unwavering support to the club, applauding them for making sure that at least once a year, Uganda's volleyball fans are able to watch some of the most competitive volleyball games, which is thrilling.

In fact, because of NSSF's contribution, a host of corporate organizations, including Diamond Trust Bank, Centenary Bank, Uganda Revenue Authority, NBS TV, Total Energies, ABSA Bank, National Water and Sewerage Corporation, Parliament of Uganda, Uganda Cancer Institute, and Housing Finance Bank will be competing in the three-day tournament.

Under the theme: Championing Better Community, Health and Behaviour through sports, the KAVC International tournament is also supported by other key partners like Pepsi, NBS Sport, Goodlife Pharmacy, Ministry of Health, and the Uganda Olympic Committee among others. A total of 30 men and women's sides will grace the tournament, with the likes of APR and REG of Rwanda among the highlight teams.
