The African Development Bank Group and the Eastern and Southern Africa Water and Sanitation Regulators Association (ESAWAS) will host a webinar on improving regulation in water and sanitation sector financing on 8 August 2024.
Globally, the contributions of the Policy, Institutions and Regulatory frameworks to financing in the water sector remain under-developed. Regulations shape water and sanitation services, influencing pricing, spending, and accountability. While regulators currently focus on setting prices and ensuring effective service delivery, their role could expand to guide broader funding decisions in the water and sanitation sector.
Key topics include:
- Overview of the strategic sector finance framework and its impact on service providers
- Regulators' role in planning, implementing, and monitoring investments
- Findings from a joint study by the African Development Bank and ESAWAS on improving sector finance effectiveness
- Case studies on fair and accountable fund allocation in Kenya and Zambia
Speakers:
- Mtchera Chirwa, OiC Director for Water Development and Sanitation at the African Development Bank
- Yvonne Magawa, Executive Secretary, Eastern and Southern Africa Water and Sanitation (ESAWAS) Regulators Association
- Adrian Wilson, Managing Director, Wilson and Associates International Consultants
- Mecuria Assefaw, Manager, Water Security and Sanitation, Eastern and Southern Africa at the African Development Bank
