The Special Forces Command(SFC) has dismissed as untrue, reports that President Museveni's convoy was over the weekend involved in an accident in Ngogwe, along the Mukono- Nyenga road.
The reports that made rounds on social media claimed that five people had died after being allegedly knocked by the speeding convoy at Nkokonjeru-Ngogwe in Buikwe district.
However, in a statement the SFC public information officer, Maj Jimmy Omara said the reports are unfounded as the president's convoy was not anywhere in that area over the weekend.
"The president's convoy was never in Buikwe over the weekend as being alleged by post which is circulating on social media. We would therefore like to note that the allegation against the president's motorcade is fake news as we have not registered any such incident in the last two years," Maj Omara said.
He said it is high time those circulating the information apologized for circulating fake news "that is meant to dent the image of the force and its motorcade crew."
"We ask the reporter to contact the area District Police Commander of Buikwe for clear and factual information other than basing on hear say."
According to the Ssezibwa Regional Police Spokesperson, Ms Hellen Butoto, the only accident registered in the area was on Sunday involving a motorcycle registration number UDL628Q a Bajaj boxer which was involved in a head-on collision with an unknown vehicle.
"It is alleged that at around 7;30pm, the rider of said motorcycle was from Nkokonjeru going to Ssii Subcounty, while the unknown motor vehicle was from Nyenga heading towards Katosi Mokono and had head on collision ," Butoto said.
She noted that the driver of the motor vehicle didn't stop.
Butoto added that three people including the rider, Sadiq Mubaale, Joseph Wadada, Babirye Nakate Hasifa and Pretty Nafuna died while Davis Gondagi is still nursing serious injuries.
She said investigations into the accident are still ongoing.
