CHAIRPERSON of the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC), Priscilla Chigumba, is lucky to be alive after her official vehicle was involved in a road traffic accident Sunday afternoon.

The crash involving a fuel tanker and another smaller vehicle occurred around a stretch known as 'Little England' along the Harare-Chirundu highway.

The top jurist-cum-ZEC boss was reportedly travelling from Chinhoyi to Harare.

Information permanent secretary, Nick Mangwana confirmed the accident in a social media post this Monday.

"Yesterday (Sunday), ZEC chairperson, Justice Chigumba, was involved in an accident on her way from Chinhoyi when a haulage tanker crashed into three vehicles including hers.

"There were no fatalities from the accident and Justice Chigumba was not injured," said Mangwana.

Images of the wrecked Toyota Land Cruiser, which collided with a fuel tanker has gone viral on social media platforms.

The SUV's front end sustained significant damage that included a crushed bonnet, a dislodged wheel and shattered windows.

The cause of the accident remains a mystery.

Efforts to get comment from Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) national spokesperson, Commissioner Paul Nyathi were fruitless by the time of publishing.
