The Chief of Defence Forces, Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, on Monday hosted renowned Congolese Soukous star Awilo Longomba at the Special Forces Command Headquarters in Entebbe.
The meeting was also attended by Minister of State for Youth and Children Affairs Balaam Barugahara and NRM Secretary General Richard Todwong.
Awilo, whose real name is Louis Albert William Longomba, is in Uganda to headline the Afro-exclusive concert, scheduled for Saturday, September 7, 2024, at the Sheraton Kampala Hotel.
He will perform alongside Nigerian singer and songwriter Chike, promising a vibrant celebration of African music.
The visit reflects Uganda's ongoing efforts to enhance cultural ties with influential artists across the continent.
Gen Muhoozi's meeting with Longomba follows a similar engagement last year with Jamaican music star Konshens, where discussions centered on collaboration between the Jamaican and Ugandan music industries.
Awilo, celebrated for his infectious soukous hits such as Karolina, Coupe Bibamba, and Moto Pamba, expressed excitement about his upcoming performance in Kampala.
Chike, known for popular tracks like "Running" and "Roju," is set to bring his unique sound to the Ugandan audience.
The meeting highlighted the importance of music and culture in strengthening regional ties and promoting Uganda as a hub for African entertainment.
