South Africa: Police Minister to Deliver Statement in National Assembly On SAPS' Plans to Deal With Extortion

The Minister of Police, Mr Senzo Mchunu, will tomorrow deliver a statement during the National Assembly (NA) sitting on the South African Police Services' plans to deal with high levels of extortion in the country.

The statement comes in response to an increase in reports of extortion in various business industries across the country, resulting in some businesses ceasing their operations.

Meanwhile, ministers in the Peace and Security Cluster 1A will field Questions for Oral Reply during a hybrid sitting of the National Council of Provinces (NCOP) at 14:00. This Cluster comprises the Minister of Police, Minister in the Presidency: State Security, and the Minister of Defence and Military Veterans.

Among the questions the ministers are expected to answer include challenges faced by military veterans and the support available to members of the South African Defence Force dealing with anxiety and depression. They will also respond to issues relating to extortion, construction mafias, threats of terrorism, and illegal military camps.
