Zimbabwe: Justice Chigumba Unhurt in Crash

3 September 2024

Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) chairperson Justice Priscilla Chigumba escaped unhurt when a vehicle she was travelling in was involved in a road traffic accident near Mapinga along the Harare-Chirundu Highway.

Justice Chigumba was travelling from Chinhoyi when her Toyota Landcruiser Prado was among three other vehicles that were crashed into by a haulage tanker on Sunday afternoon.

No fatalities were recorded at the scene of the accident.

In an interview, ZEC deputy chairperson Mr Rodney Simukai Kiwa confirmed the accident yesterday.

"I don't have much details about the accident except to say that she is fine and she is okay. She was not injured during the accident and as we are talking right now she is at home and she is not even admitted in hospital," he said.

National police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi said they were still compiling the details of the accident and will soon issue a comprehensive statement.
