Nigeria: Gunmen Storm Lagos Community, Kill 20yr Old Man

Four armed men stormed the Okokomaiko community in Ojo area of Lagos State over the weekend, leaving in their trail the death of a 20-year-old man.

The gunmen, as gathered, announced their presence with sporadic gunshots. Thereafter, they stormed one of the buildings on Abeokuta Street, where their target took to his heels. They reportedly chased their victim, caught up with him, and shot him severally in the head, stomach, and leg, resulting in his death.

Spokesman for the Lagos State Police Command, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, who confirmed the killing, said it occurred at about 11:10 pm on Friday, September 6, 2024. He said that at about 11:30 pm on the same date, "information was received from concerned members of the public that at about 11:10 pm, four unidentified gunmen were seen chasing a young man in the area, and they shot him severally till he died. They escaped to an unknown destination."

"Upon receiving the information, a team of anti-crime personnel went to the scene and met one Vivian, who happened to be the mother of the deceased. She identified him as 20 years old and stated that he lived with her. The corpse was evacuated and deposited at IDH Mortuary, Yaba, Lagos. Investigation is in progress.

"Efforts are being made to trace the fleeing suspects for possible arrest and prosecution, while the case file will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further and discreet investigation."
