Zimbabwe: Fire Guts 44 Decommissioned Trains - NRZ Says Investigations Underway

A fire broke out at the National Railways of Zimbabwe (NRZ)'s Bulawayo mechanical workshops on Monday destroying 44 decommissioned trains.

The incident occurred around 1:30 PM and no injuries were reported.

In a press statement, NRZ said the fifteen decommissioned coaches were awaiting disposal as scrap.

"The National Railways of Zimbabwe (NRZ) informs the nation of a fire outbreak at the company's mechanical workshops in Bulawayo this afternoon (16/09/2024). Fortunately, there were no injuries reported.

"Investigations to determine the cause of the fire, which broke out around 1330hrs, are already underway and details will be shared in due course. Decommissioned coaches which were awaiting disposal as scrap were damaged," reads the statement.
