Gen Kateitwa passed away on September 13 in a car accident along the Masaka-Kampala highway while returning from Kisoro, where he attended the burial of the late State Minister Sarah Mateke.

The burial ceremony, held at Kakatunda Primary School playground, was attended by UPDF officials from all ranks, clergy, and numerous mourners who gathered to pay their last respects.

During the service, Canon Milton Nkurunungi, the Diocesan Secretary of Kigezi, praised the Government of Uganda under President Museveni for fostering a strong social relationship within society.

He emphasised the unpredictability of life, stating, "We don't have the wisdom; life remains in the hands of God. If one were asked, when will you die, how, and where? These are questions only God knows."

Roland Ndyomugyenyi, the Rukiga County legislator and maternal uncle to the late Brig. Gen. Kateitwa, recalled their last conversation. He expressed regret at not being able to meet him as planned.

Maj Gen Henry Ndamubweine, representing the Chief Political Commissioner of the UPDF, emphasized Gen Kateitwa's dedication to his country.

The Chief of Defence Forces (CDF), General Muhoozi Keinerugaba, described Kateitwa as a man who served with unwavering patriotism.

"We remember Brig Gen Kateitwa with deep respect and gratitude for his exceptional service to our nation," he stated.

Born on November 28, 1962, Gen Kateitwa attended Makobore High School for O-Level and Makerere College for A-Level before graduating from Makerere University in 1983 with a second upper class degree in Economics and Rural Economy.

He embarked on his military career shortly after, joining the ranks of the UPDF on 27th April 1987.

Throughout his career, Kateitwa held several key roles, including Paymaster for the 1st Division from 1989 to 1994 and later as an instructor at the Gaddafi Garrison unit.

He was promoted to Brigadier in 2022 and completed numerous military courses in countries such as Kenya, Sweden, Yugoslavia, and Tanzania.

At the time of his passing, he served as the Director of Training and Doctrine for the Uganda Peoples Defence Forces Land Forces.
