Iranian hackers stole sensitive information from Donald Trump's electoral campaign and funnelled it to people linked to Joe Biden's team, according to the FBI and U.S. intelligence agencies.
The data was sent in unsolicited emails in late June and early July--right before Biden dropped out of the race.
"There's no evidence that anyone replied to the hackers' emails," a U.S. official said.
In a warning issued in August, officials claimed Iran was trying to "stoke discord" and undermine trust in U.S. institutions ahead of the November election.
The hackers used "social engineering and other efforts" to infiltrate both Democratic and Republican campaigns, a tactic that's been used by Iran and Russia in election meddling worldwide.
