Uganda: MP Tebandeke Seeks Action On Public Land Occupancy, Urges Cancellation of Unlawful Leases

Charles Tebandeke, Member of Parliament for Bbaale County, has requested space on the order paper to present a motion to Parliament, seeking government intervention on public land occupancy.

Tebandeke's motion aims to:

  • Grant Freehold Titles. Process and grant freehold titles to residents on public land
  • Cancel Unlawful Leases. Cancel leases unlawfully granted over public land.
  • Verification Exercise. Conduct a verification exercise to identify occupants, developments, and occupancy status on public land
  • Public Sensitization. Task government to continue sensitizing the public through mass media about activities under the SLAC program

"As a representative of the people, it is my duty to ensure that our citizens' rights to land are protected," Tebandeke stated.

"The current situation, where unlawful leases have been granted, must be addressed to prevent further exploitation."
