The Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, Dr. Stephen Samuel Kaziimba Mugalu, has emphasised the importance of Music, Dance, and Drama (MDD) as effective means for spreading the gospel.
In a speech delivered on his behalf by Mr. Samuel Bakutana, the President of the Provincial Fathers' Union, during the Provincial Mothers' Union MDD competitions at St. Janani Luwum Schools in Bombo, Luwero Diocese, Archbishop Kaziimba highlighted that MDD not only disseminates the gospel but also nurtures faith and strengthens marriages and families.
"I commend the Mothers' Union for organizing these music competitions. They are vital tools for preaching the gospel and building our faith, marriages, and families," he stated.
He expressed gratitude to the leadership of Janani Schools for hosting the event and acknowledged the choirs for their participation, ranging from diocesan to provincial levels.
"I congratulate you for advancing through these levels to the Provincial stage. This is no small feat, as music, dance, and drama require significant time, resources, and commitment,'" the Archbishop added.
The Diocese of West Ankole emerged victorious in the competition, followed by the Diocese of Northern Uganda in second place and the Diocese of Lango in third.
Other participating dioceses included Namirembe, Mukono, Central Busoga, Bukedi, and South Rwenzori.
Bishop Johnson Twinomujuni of West Ankole Diocese attributed their success to the dedication, resources, and time invested in the competitions.
He expressed gratitude to the Archbishop, event organizers, and choirs for their commitment.
"I am thankful to the husbands and families of these wonderful women for providing them with support, encouragement, and space to excel. This performance and achievement reflect positively on our Diocese. With love, unity, and determination, West Ankole is on the path to greatness," noted Bishop Twinomujuni.
According to the Provincial Mothers' Union President, Mrs. Grace Murengyezi, the main goal of these competitions is to spread the gospel through music, dance, and drama.
She expressed enthusiasm about the event's success, noting the discovery of remarkable talent. She praised participants for their dedication and preparation.
"The response has been overwhelming. We have witnessed incredible talent and commitment from all participating choirs. The competition has not only showcased their skills but also strengthened bonds between dioceses, fostering unity and friendship among participants," said Murengyezi.
A total of eight choirs from various dioceses across the four regions of the Church of Uganda participated in the competitions.
