Uganda: Relatives of Suspects in Ndiga Clan Leader Murder Case Appeal for Release

3 October 2024

Their plea follows the confession of the prime suspect, Lujja Tabula, who admitted to killing Bbosa and claimed the co-accused were not involved.

Relatives of the four co-accused in the murder of Eng Daniel Bbosa, a prominent leader of the Ndiga clan, are appealing for their release after being held for over six months.

Their plea follows the confession of the prime suspect, Lujja Tabula, who admitted to killing Bbosa and claimed the co-accused were not involved.

During court proceedings, Tabula accepted full responsibility for the crime, stating, "I am the one responsible for this crime and know everything about the case. These are just my relatives but had no involvement in what I did."

He stressed that the four should not be held accountable for his actions.

The co-accused, including Tabula's siblings Joseph Nakabale and Harriet Nakiguli, as well as Mayanja Ezra and Kisekwa Court clerk Milly Naluwenda, have also sought release or bail.

They revealed that they were arrested during a security search for Tabula and were told they would be freed once he was apprehended.

They further explained that their detention has left their young children, some of whom are preparing for final exams, unattended.

Prosecutor Caroline Mpumwire informed the court that the committal papers for the case were being finalized, requesting an additional three weeks to complete the documents.

The court has granted the extension, setting October 24 as the new date for the High Court to decide whether the co-accused have a case to answer.

Presiding magistrate at Rubaga/Nateete, commonly known as Mwanga II court, Adams Byarugaba, advised the defendants that his court lacked the jurisdiction to make a ruling on their plea. He urged them to await the High Court's decision on October 24.
