Uganda: Engineering Fraternity Mourns Passing of Dr.Robert Okello

Uganda's engineering fraternity is mourning the passing of one of their own, Dr. Eng. Robert Peter Okello who previously served as the chairman of the Uganda Industrial Research Institute (UIRI).

Eng. Okello died on October ,4 at the Uganda Heart Institute in Kampala.

Burial arrangements

According to the burial program, there will be a church service at All Saints Cathedral in Nakasero on Wednesday, October, 9 before a vigil at the residence of Te Obia between 8pm and 6am.

There will also be a prayer service at the residence of Te Obia in Lira City on Thursday October, 10 and the following day on Thursday, mourners will pay last respects at Lira Golf Club before a prayer service at St. Andrew's Church Anyomorem and later vigil at the ancestral home.

Burial will be held on Saturday at the ancestral home.

Biography

From 2010 up to the time of his death, Eng.Okello has been serving as the director for Lyciar, a consulting organization involved in Civil Engineering and Research sectors but prior to that, he served as a senior policy advisor for infrastructure and regional integration at the organization.

Between 2012 and 2022, he served as a board member for the Uganda Retirement Benefits Regulatory Authority but also the chairman of the Uganda National Governing Council African Peer Review Mechanism of African Union and the National Planning Authority between 2016 and 2018.

Dr. Eng. Robert Peter Okello MacOmodo hosted President Museveni and Minister of Trade while serving as UIRI board chairperson.He also served as the Non-Executive Director at Tropical Bank, Uganda between 2011 and 2012,Chairman Board of Directors, Uganda Industrial Research Institute between 2009 and 2011 Director for Division on NEPAD and Regional Integration in Africa, Director Office of Policy and Programme Coordination; Director for Southern Africa United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA), Addis-Ababa between 1997 and 2008.

As the captain of Lira Golf Club, they revived the club and became a member of the board of trustees.Eng Okello also served as a Technical Advisor at United Nations Economic Commission for Africa, Chief Technical Advisor of the United Nations Transport and Communications Decade in Africa, Deputy Coordinator and Chief of Communications Programme between 1984 and 1996 and Staff Manager, American Telephone and Telegraph (AT&T)1981 and 1985 and as an Operations Research Analyst, Kennecott Copper Company between 1978 and 1981.
