The centres, located at Bukusu and Bukulube Primary Schools in Nawanyago Sub-county, were established to promote nursery education in the region.

The International Development Institute (IDI) Uganda has invested Shs 72 million into Early Childhood Development (ECD) centres in Kamuli District, handing over two newly built facilities to the district education department.

The centres, located at Bukusu and Bukulube Primary Schools in Nawanyago Sub-county, were established to promote nursery education in the region.

While officially handing over the centres, IDI Uganda Country Director Chanwook Park urged local leaders and the community to ensure the sustainability of these facilities.

He emphasized the importance of enrolling children in the centres, ensuring their smooth transition into primary education, and fostering a positive learning experience.

"These facilities now belong to the community. I encourage everyone to work together for the sustainable development of these villages and their education systems," said Chanwook on behalf of IDI Uganda and the project's Korean donors.

Chanwook also highlighted the significance of early childhood education, stressing its role in shaping a child's long-term academic success and creating a strong foundation for future achievements.

Christine Okalang, IDI Uganda's Regional Program Manager, revealed that IDI had also provided 330 million meals, consisting of posho, beans, and cooking oil, to 6,545 pupils in 16 primary schools through its feeding program.

This initiative has improved student retention and regular attendance.

"We have focused on teacher refresher courses, capacity building, infrastructure improvements, and water and sanitation facilities, all aimed at enhancing academic performance and ensuring that children stay in school," Okalang added.

Stella Lubuga, headteacher at Bukusu Primary School, expressed her gratitude for IDI Uganda's contribution to the nursery sector.

While the government mandates the establishment of nursery sections in every primary school, the necessary resources are often lacking. These new facilities will help bridge that gap.

Lubuga praised the partnership, saying it has created a conducive learning environment and improved the quality of education in the area.

"Your generosity and dedication to education will leave a lasting impact on our community," she concluded.

The initiative underscores IDI Uganda's commitment to fostering sustainable education development and supporting communities by providing essential resources for early childhood learning.
