The Congress of South African Trade Unions (COSATU) welcomes the filing of the memorial regarding the ICJ case of genocide by the apartheid state of Israel in Gaza and throughout the whole of occupied Palestine.
On 28October, the South African government finally delivered the historic evidence in an act of true solidarity and commitment to the cause of freedom, justice and end to the illegal occupation of Palestine
COSATU further acknowledges this important historic act of solidarity by the ANC-led government as it happened a day after the birthday of the longest serving President of the ANC and an internationalist par excellence, Oliver Reginald Tambo. It is without doubt that President Tambo is very proud of this brave show of solidarity with the oppressed people of Palestine and as an affirmation of global moral leadership against Zionism, racism and the growing fascist mobilisations in various parts of the world.
COSATU also recognise the heightened solidarity activities by alliance partners, including the 6 October anniversary alliance event at Regina Mundi church in Soweto and the COSATU 7 October mass rallies which also honoured and raised further the profile and real show of solidarity with the Palestinian people.
Towards that end, COSATU reaffirms its unwavering call for the intensification of the global boycott, divestment and sanctions campaign against the apartheid state of Israel and special message to the international trade union movement to be at the forefront, as has always been the case on matters of internationalism and class struggle.
Finally, COSATU calls on all global solidarity forces to use the upcoming 29 November, which is the UN Day of international solidarity with the people of Palestine, as a crucial turning point in the work of global solidarity against Zionism, land dispossessions and occupation, racism and apartheid in all their forms. These are crimes against humanity and we make a clarion call to all our compatriots, particularly on the African continent and throughout the world to regard these as part of the continued struggle to end colonial systems, inequalities and injustice wherever these happen.
