The Minister of Defence and Veteran Affairs, Jacob Oboth Oboth has distributed 50 tricycles and wheelchairs to Persons Living with Disabilities in Tororo District.

The handover ceremony, held at Tororo Government Hospital, featured items donated by First Lady Janet Kataha Museveni and the Darsani Group.

In his address, Oboth thanked the Darsani Group for its continued support, noting this was the second time the organisation had made such a donation for PWDs in the district.

The West Budama Central MP highlighted the importance of mobility aids in empowering PWDs to lead more active lives.

"The gesture by the Darsani Group is profound, given that disability can affect anyone," he remarked.

Dr Thomas Ochari, superintendent of Tororo Hospital, expressed gratitude to the donors, underscoring the donation's positive impact, particularly for children with disabilities, as it facilitates their mobility and enables easier access to education.

He also appealed to Hon. Oboth for assistance in securing a perimeter fence for the hospital, which he emphasized as crucial for the safety of both patients and staff.

In response, Hon. Oboth called on the Darsani Group to collaborate with Tororo Cement in considering support for the hospital's perimeter wall, similar to the company's contributions to other institutions in the district.

Tororo District Chairperson, Mr. John Okeya, praised the event as a significant milestone for PWDs and the wider community.

"This is a great moment for Tororo district. Whoever reaches out to support the vulnerable is indeed blessed by God," he said, acknowledging the impact of such generosity on the district's most vulnerable.

The donation highlights the essential role of partnerships in addressing the needs of persons with disabilities and the importance of community support in enhancing their quality of life.

Combined efforts from government leaders, private donors, and local organizations continue to bring hope and progress to Tororo's disabled community.
