DWF is an independent foundation committed to building and promoting inclusive, equitable and sustainable consensus orientated democracies in Africa. We do so by supporting the meaningful participation of citizens and communities, promoting democratic cultures and institutions, and fostering sustainable economic development. Our work is grounded in the principles of Resilient Democracies. These principles are anchored in the belief that equitable and inclusive governance--integrated with socio-ecological and intersectional approaches--can position African societies as leaders in economic, social, institutional, and environmental transformation. DWF engages political society, governments, civil society, and the private sector to foster consensus-based decision-making and to build trust between diverse societal actors.
DWF will embark on a multiyear regional initiative aimed at strengthening resilient democracies in Southern Africa. The project's specific objective is to support the development of inclusive and resilient democracies by addressing and countering polarisation in South Africa, Malawi, Mozambique, and Zimbabwe. This objective aligns with DWF's ongoing work to strengthen democracy while highlighting the role that polarisation can play in reversing democratic progress. By incorporating polarisation analysis, the initiative will enable distinct, targeted interventions to mitigate polarisation as a key tool for safeguarding democracy.
The DWF team is growing, and we are looking for exceptional Research Manager to join us in the Johannesburg office to oversee the overall implementation of the project and ensuring full integration of project outputs with DWF's broader programme of work. This role requires excellent organisational, project management, data and research skills, along with the ability to build strong relationships with stakeholders. The successful candidate will be expected to start in December 2024, or as soon as possible.
